The conversion of the original Campus Commons building will create a new home for the University’s Wine Business Institute. The Institute is a unique program with a vision to propel Sonoma State to “the number one university in the world for wine business education and research”. Situated in the heart of the Sonoma County wine country, the building and program is supported by major partners in the global wine industry.

New state-of-the-art classrooms are being designed specifically to support wine business education. A Business of Hospitality Classroom will allow students to learn hands-on the skills of tasting, serving, and marketing wine. The Entrepreneurship Classrooms will allow students to connect real-time via distance learning with Wine faculty and businesses throughout the world. The large Commons Classroom will act as a large lecture space, and for hosting of large events. Flexible furniture systems will allow all the classrooms to be used for multiple applications.

The building design is focused on showcasing the business of wine and hospitality. Warm natural materials will compliment and contrast the existing concrete structure. There will be a variety of meeting spaces, both formal and informal that will foster a very transparent and collaborative learning environment. The mechanical and electrical systems will be completely upgraded, providing a healthy, energy-efficient environment.
