OPTIMIZED WORKFLOW

The Kaiser Santa Rosa Pediatric Injection Clinic project was a minor renovation to promote safe working conditions. Ergonomic nurse workstations, updated vaccine preparation areas, optimal storage areas, and a finish refresh of the exam rooms brought this space to life.

The team explored several design iterations with creative collaboration between the owner, users and architect. The existing nurse station footprint was undersized, and updated owner design guidelines stipulated nursing staff should be visible to incoming member traffic. The slight adjustment of relocating the staff area with medication prep and storage area behind, puts the smiling faces of the clinic staff front and center.

New workstations are height adjustable to allow staff personalized ergonomic modification throughout the day. Ergonomic task seating was provided, along with all new casework counter space and cabinets that meet accessibility requirements.

BRANDED ENVIRONMENT

A new large tree graphic adorns the wall of the main walkway to four exam rooms creating a sense of wonder and play. All finishes in a healthcare setting need to be carefully selected to hold up to the clinical environment with ease of maintenance. To ensure the large-scale graphics are durable in both the high-traffic corridor and exam rooms where families will spend time waiting for clinicians, Kaiser brand images printed on wall protection instead of wallcovering will hold up to the likes of strollers, carts, curious hands and cleaning routines.

Within the exam rooms a flooring and paint refresh brightens the space, and a new geometric wall graphic provides a friendly distraction for patients and functions two-fold as a sterile cleanable surface.

Early TLCD rendering of remodeled space

During the design process, the latest Kaiser Brand standard palette selections were integrated into presentations for approval. Our team used digital finish boards with floor plans and elevations to indicate location for each material. Visual representation renderings assisted the client and end users in visualizing the completed project.

Thoughtful healthcare design can leave a lasting positive impression on a child’s or family’s personal medical journey. The Kaiser Santa Rosa Intermediate Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is another TLCD pediatric project that supports families.
