Through thoughtful planning and design, Kaiser Permanente is now able to provide its’ members with a comprehensive mental health program in a calming and respectful interior environment.

Visitors seem to visibly relax in the Welcome Center

Patients and families can find a comfortable spot in an expansive seating area, or in a sunlit cozy nook while waiting. Personalized features include decorative lighting, wood accents and several types of seating which lend a residential quality to the space. Artwork by local artists complement the soothing colors and reinforce the theme of appreciation for nature.

Wayfinding cues are incorporated into the interior design of this 16,700 s.f. facility which is broken up into zones for individual therapy, group therapy, family and child/adolescent therapy. Carpet patterns emphasize circulation zones and queuing while memorable artwork pieces provide visual clues in each neighborhood. Hallways are generously sized to accommodate people arriving for group therapy who can take advantage of a comfortable seating niche.

Thoughtful use of an observation suite brings insight for care providers.

A specially outfitted play therapy room provides a safe space for children. The adjacent family therapy room features artwork that can spur conversation as well as colorful marker boards to facilitate communication. Both rooms can be observed by practitioners through acoustically sealed walls and one-way mirrors.
