At the Santa Rosa Junior College’s oak studded college campus, the Frank P. Doyle Library proudly claims its place in the heart of a community that celebrates its historic roots while welcoming 21st Century higher education.
A COLLEGIATE ATMOSPHERE
TLCD joined forces with Shepley Bulfinch of Boston to design this new 145,000 SF Library, which comfortably fits into an historic campus. Traditional brick architecture for a 4 story building in California earthquake country was achieved through this close collaboration under the direction of SRJC’s leadership team.
READING ROOMS THRIVE
Historic book collections, traditional stacks and study space for students “cracking the books” are alive and well in an inspiring and reflective environment.
LEARNING RESOURCES
This library design focuses on an environment for teaching and learning information literacy. Collaborative work environments such as group study rooms, a coffee bar, and Center for New Media for faculty and staff make the library the social, cultural and symbolic center of the campus.
MORE THAN A LIBRARY
A museum quality Art Gallery, a Coffee Bar, and a Center for New Media reinforce the vibrancy of the building and invite commuting students to enjoy a collegiate atmosphere.
SUSTAINABLE FEATURES
To increase the long-term efficiency in operational costs the building employs a variety of strategies including Thermal Energy Storage Ice Banks and a 58 Kilowatt photovoltaic array on the roof.
