The elegant conversion of the original Campus Commons building creates a new home for Sonoma State University’s Wine Spectator Learning Center.
A VISIONARY PARTNERSHIP OF INDUSTRY AND EDUCATION
The Center houses a unique program whose vision is to propel Sonoma State to “the number one university in the world for wine business education and research”. Situated in the heart of the Sonoma County wine country, the Wine Business Institute program is supported by major partners in the global wine industry.
FLEXIBLE LEARNING SPACES
New state-of-the-art classrooms are designed specifically to support wine business education. Students enjoy “hands-on” learning in the skills of tasting, serving, and marketing wine. The Commons Classroom acts as a large lecture space, and can host bigger groups and events. Flexible furniture systems allow all the classrooms to be used for multiple applications.
COLLABORATIVE SOFT ZONES
Careful attention has been given to places for students to hang out, study or have small group meetings. A green glass writing wall offers a more contemporary alternative to white boards and adds a splash of color!
REPURPOSING DONE RIGHT
Warm natural materials compliment and contrast the existing concrete structure and foster a very transparent and collaborative learning environment. Sustainability goals of the University are met through upgraded mechanical and electrical systems that provide a healthy, energy-efficient environment.
