We are excited to share the completion of the Staff Locker and Amenity Room for the operating room team at Kaiser Permanente. This is a key milestone in a multi-phase strategy that is elevating the perioperative environment and paving the way for a state-of-the-art IR Cath (Interventional Radiology Catheterization Lab) Procedure Room.
“This project is a great example of teamwork and collaboration. It takes long-term thinking and patience to design and execute projects over time with the whole hospital in mind.”

Advancing Care Through Design
Nearly five years ago, Kaiser approached our team to explore upgrades for their IR Procedure Room. As advancing technology and new code requirements increased the demand for larger, more flexible clinical spaces, we collaborated with hospital leadership to take a holistic approach to department operations. Our goal was to uncover opportunities within the existing five-story footprint.

Where Staff Comfort Meets Clinical Excellence
A thorough analysis of departmental relationships revealed an unexpected opportunity. The existing staff locker rooms, undersized and overdue for renewal, were ideally situated to house new IR equipment while preserving the essential connection to the OR (Operating Room) Core and PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit). This insight launched a strategic sequence of projects aimed at realigning space, enhancing staff experience, and advancing the hospital’s long-term vision.
Through thoughtful practice, the team evaluated how environments support staff to rest, focus, nourish, socialize, prepare, and deliver surgery and patient care, translating these insights into practical implementation.
Last year, we achieved the first major milestone by converting the former ICU (Intensive Care Unit) into modern perioperative offices and staff amenities. With teams now thriving in these renewed spaces, we moved forward to the next phase: transforming the northeast corner of the south wing into the new Staff Locker and Amenity Room.

The new environment delivers what caregivers deserve – a bright, inviting, and highly efficient space that maximizes natural light and makes optimal use of every square foot. These upgrades improve daily workflow and comfort, while also reaffirming the hospital’s commitment to supporting its frontline teams.
“Our approach to the staff locker room at Santa Rosa Hospital combines durability, functionality, and comfort with a modern, aesthetically pleasing design—creating a welcoming, efficient space that supports staff well-being and daily operations.”

Redefining the Environment Through Strategic Design & Partnerships
Together, these ongoing projects demonstrate what is possible when a trusted client architect partnership is guided by a shared mission to design smarter and build better. Through close collaboration, each project pushes beyond baseline requirements to deliver environments that are more resilient, adaptable, and people centered. In doing so, the partnership unlocks the full potential of every space and creates lasting value for the communities it serves.
With the locker rooms complete and the IR/Cath lab in progress, a new state-of-the-art procedure room and patient prep area will be ready this fall. Stay tuned!
