Swapping Wine for Hard Hats and Vests!

August 28, 2018
Every Wednesday afternoon TLCD’s staff takes a little time out of their busy schedule to learn something new, socialize with colleagues and have a drink. At last week’s Wine Wednesday TLCD swapped wine and cheese for hard hats and vests as they toured the construction site for the Burbank Auditorium Modernization at Santa Rosa Junior College. The tour was led by TLCD Project Architect Daniel Backman and Wright Contracting Project Manager Steve McCulloch. Nine months into construction, there was a lot of exciting work in progress.

The TLCD team got an inside look at the wide variety of construction activities that are underway. Formwork for the new 200 seat studio theatre is almost complete and ready for concrete to be poured. Inside the existing building, the walls of the larger and deeper orchestra pit are in place, unlocking the extensive improvements to the auditorium that will take shape over the coming months. Raised floors have been built out through much of the existing building, uniting nearly all the spaces and programs of the theatre arts department on a single level. And new mechanical and plumbing systems fill the space above the ceiling, replacing the building’s aging infrastructure and connecting it to the new campus’s geothermal heating and cooling system.

This tour was an exciting opportunity for the TLCD team to get an up close view of one the firm’s largest and most complex projects. We will return again next Spring to see the project as it nears completion.
