Construction is moving quickly at the Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance (KAD) modernization for Santa Rosa Junior College’s main campus. The $30M project will update and expand the existing KAD Department with resurfaced and reconfigured baseball, softball, and soccer fields, new grandstands for Bailey Field, a new Fieldhouse for Bailey Field, and a new aquatics facility with a 52 meter pool.
TLCD partnered with ELS Architecture and Urban Design and Wright Contracting for this dynamic design-build project. Along with providing better facilities and access to the respective sports teams, the college’s goals included transforming approximately 1/3 of the campus by providing a stronger identity for the project area and a clearer connection to the rest of the college. There was also a desire to create a distinct home field advantage with modern facilities.
Since beginning construction in January 2021, progress has been almost constant over the entire site. Existing fencing at the sports fields was removed, followed by the new underground utilities and drainage. Grading then occurred at all areas, with excavation of the new pool close behind. Currently, final electrical and plumbing connections at the pool are being completed prior to placement of the surrounding concrete pool deck. Rough framing is happening at the first and second floors of the fieldhouse and artificial turf is being placed at the baseball and softball fields. The new Bailey Field grandstands are nearing completion for the start of football games in September. Overall project completion is scheduled for April of 2022.
