Kaiser Oncology Expansion

February 13, 2024

The Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa Hospital and Medical Offices serve the extended Sonoma County community. One critical need is for oncology services which include infusion, dialysis, and palliative care. The Santa Rosa expansion helps to meet the needs of a high number of patients requiring oncological care.

The project, currently under construction, significantly expands the number of infusion bays, nurse stations and support facilities for the Oncology Department. It has been proven that exposure to natural light and bucolic views helps calm patients’ which speeds up recovery and assists in the morale of staff and caregivers. By organizing all of the infusion bays against the existing window wall with views to the exterior landscaping, patients will now have access to daylight while undergoing treatment.

The project team’s goal was to create a less clinical environment and provide a more hospitable space for patients who may be undergoing treatment for some hours. Wooden cabinetry, accents of calming color and visual points of interest all contribute to a more comfortable and tranquil atmosphere.

The Oncology expansion is being done in 2 phases to ensure continued care of patients. Phase 1 will be complete in spring/summer of this year and includes most of the infusion bays and nurse stations. Phase 2, scheduled to be completed in early 2025, will include an expanded Compounding Pharmacy.
