Hospital Lobby Design

Healing Begins At The Front Door

June 27, 2018

First impressions are important in healthcare environments and a positive experience can help reduce anxiety, stress and confusion. As patients and family members enter a healthcare facility they should feel welcome, intuitively know where to go, and have confidence they are at a place that provides the best care and most current medical practices and technologies. One of our key healthcare clients understands the importance of first impressions and asked us to help them update several of their lobbies to create an environment where healing begins at the front door.

This project entailed refreshing the main hospital lobby into a welcoming space that reflects the high level of care being provided and feels fresh but also familiar. We worked with the client to design a place that is comfortable to relax and read, or literally recharge at the tech bar. Technology can also be supported with additional USB/power stations at a new book case that houses their library of shared books. These details were important tools to help members maintain connection to their daily lives.

Colors and materials used in the new lobby design are true to the brand yet balanced by inspiration from the local landscape of Sonoma County. Commissioned artwork follows suit and represents the beauty of our geographical location nestled between the ocean and the hillsides. 3-D models and a virtual walk-through were used in the design process to bring the space and materials to life, and help support the client in making confident decisions.

“We hope this space continues to welcome patients and support comfort and healing for years to come!”
