We’re thrilled to have our colleague, Daniel Backman, recognized by the North Bay Business Journal as part of the newest class of 40 Under 40 young professionals!
Since joining TLCD Architecture in 2016, Daniel has quickly risen to be one of the leaders in the firm. Promoted to Principal at the start of 2020, he heads up TLCD’s Higher Education practice. Daniel oversees TLCD’s diverse portfolio of Community College and California State University projects across the Bay Area and Northern California. He is also highly engaged in the firm’s marketing and business development efforts as well as mentorship of younger staff.
Deeply involved in his community, Daniel is a Board Member at the Petaluma Arts Center, where he serves as the Chair of their Education Committee. He is also an active member of the American Institute of Architects Redwood Empire Chapter (AIARE) and a LEED Accredited Professional.
During his time at TLCD, Daniel has led the transformation of the 80-year old Burbank Auditorium at Santa Rosa Junior College into a sophisticated and contemporary center for the performing arts at the core of an historic campus. Daniel is also the Architect for Art House – the first new residential building built in Downtown Santa Rosa in several years – which is currently under construction.

With a passion for preserving older buildings, Daniel and his wife Madeline successfully renovated a 100-year-old Heritage Home in Petaluma. For these efforts they received a Preservation Award from Heritage Homes of Petaluma in 2015. Not to be daunted, they recently moved into a larger, and older historic home where they are raising their two children.
