The reconstruction and expansion of the Santa Rosa Junior College’s Burbank Theatre has officially begun, with the sound of demolition jackhammers and saws echoing through the now cavernous building.
Yesterday the official groundbreaking ceremony took place, attended by campus administrators, board members, faculty and staff, community members, as well as representatives of the architectural team TLCD Architecture and Mark Cavagnero Associates, the builder Wright Contracting, and the construction manager Harris & Associates.
Opening comments were made by College President Frank Chong and Board President Maggie Fishman, followed by hard-hat tours of the facility. TLCD has collaborated with Mark Cavagnero Associates on this, the College’s first major Measure H Bond project, which will be constructed to coincide with SRJC’s 100th Anniversary. The project will bring a long-awaited modernization to the building’s main theatre, as well as updated and expanded support facilities, and the addition of new studio theatre, which will serve as a multi-function space including a large teaching classroom and black box theatre.
