UTILITIES FIELD OFFICE, CITY OF SANTA ROSA

Santa Rosa, CA | Complete

The Utilities Field Office is an elegant expression of the project’s primarily utilitarian function, emphasizing a quality workplace environment within the context of a healthy, sustainable facility. Completed in 2011, the 40,000 square foot project includes new administrative and operations offices, maintenance shops, and a large training center that will be used by both public and private organizations. The facility also serves as the City’s Emergency Operations Center in the event of a disaster.

Orchard parking mitigates the heat island effect, and preferred parking is provided for carpools and low-emission, fuel efficient vehicles. Bio-swales and rain gardens with native landscaping reduce the quantity of rainwater runoff and remove pollutants before they enter the storm drain system.

Offices, conference rooms, and other facilities feature a highly efficient under-floor displacement ventilation system.  Occupants have access to independent controls to modify the temperature of their own space, even within open office environments. Shop buildings feature radiant floor slabs that provide thermal comfort efficiently and cost-effectively. A sawtooth roof configuration allows for natural illumination by means of north-facing glass, and provides the ideal orientation for rooftop photovoltaic panel arrays.
