LUTHER BURBANK SAVINGS, HEADQUARTERS BRANCH
Santa Rosa, CA | Anticipated Completion 2011
This highly visible downtown Santa Rosa project will transform the former Traverso’s delicatessen into the new headquarters branch for Luther Burbank Savings. Located on the same block as TLCD Architecture’s Museum on the Square, it will be an important component of the revitalization of downtown. These two projects, while dramatically different in appearance, are united by a clean, sophisticated modern design aesthetic.
The body of the Luther Burbank Savings building will feature a visually stunning exterior wood veneer rainscreen. All other building elements such as fascia, canopies, and window frames will be aluminum. An overhead aluminum trellis will shade windows and cast shadows on the building during the day.
In order to establish an urban presence the existing mansard roofs will be removed, and exterior walls will be raised to a height of 27 feet. The building will be extended out to the 3rd Street sidewalk, and a new glazed entry will be added at this location. There will be a new glass entry at the parking lot entrance of the building as well.
A redesigned parking lot will be separated from the transit mall by a perforated aluminum fence. The parking lot surface will be colored concrete and will drain to a bioswale along the south perimeter of the site. Canopy trees will shade the parking lot, and stone slabs and pavers will define parking stalls and contribute to the ‘crafted’ look of the project. The landscape design along both street frontages will be decidedly urban in character. Raised aluminum planters in front of the windows along B Street will reinforce the building architecture and will showcase plants developed by Luther Burbank.
